“How do you teach homosexuality? Is it like French? I was born of heterosexual parents, taught by heterosexual teachers, in a fiercely heterosexual society. So why then am I homosexual? And, no offense meant, if it were true that children mimic their teachers, we’d have a hell of a lot more nuns running around.”

Comic Book Boycott of the Day: Conservative group One Million Moms is at it again, directing its not-quite-a-million members to boycott Marvel and DC Comics due to recent announcements from both companies about their futures of their gay characters.
DC has revealed that a major character is soon going to come out as gay, while Marvel announced the engagement of superhero Northstar to his boyfriend, Kyle.
These events don’t sit will with One Million Moms, whose anti-gay agenda has also led them to protest the wedding of Archie Comics’ first gay character, Kevin Keller.
“Children desire to be just like superheroes,” said the group in a statement. “Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, ‘I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?’”
The statement goes on to accuse the publishers of trying to “indoctrate [sic] impressionable young minds.”
Marvel and DC have yet to respond to the homophobic comments.
[towleroad.]

One Million Moms are right, you know? Children do mimic those they look up to. Those they perceive as their heroes. So instead of wasting your time boycotting a comic-book series for making taking a positive attitude towards sexual orientation and equality, why don’t you try a little harder to be less stupid and narrow-minded?
Worry less about what kind of fictional characters your children will want to dress up as for Halloween and a little more about what kind of lessons are you teaching them.
Oh, and by the way: homosexuality (or any other sexual orientation for that matter) isn’t something you ‘learn’ or ‘acquire’ or ‘choose to be’. If your kid is gay, lady, I’m sorry but no amount of MACHO, MANLY MAN influence will make him like pussy. You’re just gonna have to learn to deal with that.
And last, but not least, go fuck yourselves. =D

STOP MAKING ME LOVE YOU TOM HIDDLESTON
FUCKINGSTOP

SKLJFASLKDFJKALDSJFKLASDJF OMG.
Ok, no but seriously. Even though this is just another reason to love this man, I am so incredibly happy that actors are starting to come out with this stuff. Lara Pulver is anti-labels, now Hiddles, there was that bit (mostly rumor) about Raven.
This may all seem like “well, great, whatever, they’re just realizing what we already knew”. But no, guys. This is so good. Because once you get public figures making statements like that, people start talking about it, and people start opening their minds to it.
If Benedict Cumberbatch can inspire people to be actors, if numerous, numerous other actors can inspire that creativity, can inspire philanthropy, etc., then actors can also inspire tolerance and the widening of our concepts. A lot of people say we shouldn’t give much attention to it because then it makes all the labels and everything that much more obvious. But until we do finally accept everyone, no matter who they are, and forget about labels, when none of it matters anymore, we have to show that it’s okay to think this way. People listen to those in the media. And our Congress, our politicians, parliaments, you name it, they certainly are not going to start talking about this until it becomes something everyone knows. People know and understand what being gay means - even if they are assholes and don’t support it. But people don’t understand the gray areas - they don’t understand that you can go without labels, or you can apply more than one to yourself.
So every time I hear someone else I admire in the public spotlight talk about this, it just makes me so happy. The first step is embracing it. The next is spreading it and fighting for tolerance. For everyone.

I do love you so much, Hiddles.

I wasn’t gonna reblog this, but the comment up there made me feel glad that some people really gets it. I don’t like labels, I think labels are just another way to “order” society. And I don’t like that when it comes to this. I’m not sure about it, but Tom’s answer (if this is actually what he said) and  walkamongstthestars comment made me very emotional. Thank you.

Wait. Is this legit?
Someone please tell me this is legit!

The Little Mermaid: A Gay Love Letter

rgfellows:

gettysburgcollegeallies:

DID YOU KNOW:

The Little Mermaid was written as a love letter by Hans Christian Anderson to Edvard Collin. Anderson, upon hearing of Collin’s engagement to a young woman, proclaimed his love to him. He told him ”I long for you as though you were a beautiful Calabrian girl.” Edvard Collin turned Anderson down, disgusted. Anderson then wrote The Little Mermaid to symbolize his inability to have Collin just as a mermaid cannot be with a human. He sent it to Collin in 1936 and it goes down in history as one of the most profound love letters ever written.

Most scholars and psychoanalysts concluded that Anderson was bisexual; however, he never acted upon his homosexual drives.

The Little Mermaid, as it was originally written, did not have a happy ending.

Oh my god. And if you read the original “Little Mermaid” it is fucking HEARTBREAKING; now it’s even more so.

and then suddenly feels

oh my god now the whole unrequited love thing makes SO MUCH SENSE

newfound love for this story

i now have to re-read and analyse it with this new bisexual subtext - the little mermaid as a bisexual in a heteronormative world OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOD

Apparently what he said can also be translated to “I languish for you as for a pretty Calabrian wench”

Anderson, you really needed some work with your pick-up lines!

WHOA

Whoa… Is this for real? COOL.

I mean, I never liked the Little Mermaid, but now I’m definitely considering giving the original story a read. =D

This is an enormous chain and I’m sorry, but I need to say this:

The laws in the Old Testament were set forth by god as the rules the Hebrews needed to follow in order to be righteous, to atone for the sin of Adam and Eve and to be able to get into Heaven. That is also why they were required to make sacrifices, because it was part of the appeasement for Original Sin.

According to Christian theology, when Jesus came from Heaven, it was for the express purpose of sacrificing himself on the cross so that our sins may be forgiven. His sacrifice was supposed to be the ultimate act that would free us from the former laws and regulations and allow us to enter Heaven by acting in his image. That is why he said “it is finished” when he died on the cross. That is why Christians don’t have to circumcise their sons (god’s covenant with Jacob), that is why they don’t have to perform animal sacrifice, or grow out their forelocks, or follow any of the other laws of Leviticus.

When you quote Leviticus as god’s law and say they are rules we must follow because they are what god or Jesus wants us to do, what you are really saying, as a Christian, is that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was invalid. He died in vain because you believe we are still beholden to the old laws. That is what you, a self-professed good Christian, are saying to your god and his son, that their plan for your salvation wasn’t good enough for you.

So maybe actually read the thing before you start quoting it, because the implications of your actions go a lot deeper than you think.

/An atheist who understands Christian theology better than Bible-thumpers do.

I love him

LOL, I hear you, bro.

My mother accused me of ‘stealing something from her’. By that she meant her dream of my getting married to a man, wearing a classic white dress, at a church and all that crap.

See. My sexuality stole her vicariously living through me, that’s what it did.

And that’s just one of the nasty, horrible things she said to me that week.

Good times.

No, I haven’t forgiven her yet for that. And no, I don’t think I ever will.
